This study presents the greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation potential of municipal solid waste (MSW) management in OECD countries as well as India and Egypt. Three detailed GHG balances for the USA, India, Egypt and one balance for the OECD countries are elaborated applying the life cycle assessment (LCA) method according to ISO 14040/14044 for waste management.

As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, the waste management situation in Egypt faced significant challenges. However, please note that the specific details may have changed since then.

The new study of the Federal Ministry of Environment and the Federal Environmental Agency, carried out by IFEU Heidelberg and Öko-Institut, demonstrates the climate protection potential of waste management in OECD-countries, the EU28, India and Egypt.

This study was carried out at the Experimental Farm of Faculty of Agriculture, Kafrelsheikh University, Egypt during the two seasons of 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 under walk-in plastic tunnels on bell pepper hybrids (Capsicum annuum, L.) and Strawberry plants. The aim of this study is to evaluate bell pep per plant and strawberry growth, fruits yield and quality under semi-controlled (heating & cooling) tunnel, comparing with the uncontrolled tunnel by using the Solar Energy as the source of energy.

To date, Southern Mediterranean countries have hosted a limited number of projects under the Clean Development Mechanism. This study examines existing and emerging activities in Southern Mediterranean countries that could fit into new market-based mechanisms.

In most developing and emerging countries, collecting, sorting and recycling of waste provides income to thousands of people of the informal sector. They work in the streets, at dumpsites, landfills, transfer stations or at separation plants. The informal sector is an important actor in collecting, recycling and valorising recyclables and organic waste from households and businesses. However, legitimising the activities of the informal sector and integrating them into the formal solid waste system is being regarded as a challenging process that takes a long time and requires the full commitment of all stakeholders involved. As the informal sector is often regarded as little profitable, not organised and not trustworthy, only few cooperation models between the public, private and informal private sector have been initiated so far.
